LTJ Bukem, stage name of Danny Williamson, is one of the figureheads of the more jazzy, melodic side of Drum and Bass. Raised as a classical musician, Bukem gained well deserved global fame through his own releases, numerous mixing compilations with vocalist MC Conrad, among which the well known Earth and Logical Progression compilation series, and his own imprint Good Looking Records, which is being re-launched as we speak.

In the midst of a tour, we caught Danny before his gig in Amsterdam's club 11 for our latest installment of the 10 questions.

01. What is your first memory to music?
My parents are big music lovers. From jazz to classical music. So my first memories would be classical pieces from Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky.

02. What is your favorite piece of equipment you use in the studio or DJing and why?
My Rhodes piano. It has become such a big part of what I love musically. It's smooth and classy and gives music a soul.

05. What do you do to relax? Any hobby's besides music?
Watch football as much as possible. I'm a big fan of Arsenal so try to see as much games as possible of them when I'm at home or on the road.

06. Do you think (dance) music is able to lie?
For me music comes straight from the heart. It's what I am and what I do so it's absolutely not deceptive.

07. What is the last book you have read and what did you think of it?
I'm always busy with music that I have very little time to read. Can't remember which book was the last.

08. Are all your friends involved in (dance) music?
Thank God no.

09. What would you do with a million ping pong balls?
Play ping pong?

10. What can we expect of you in the near future?
After a two year break we have relaunched Good Looking Records. Makoto's album is out since September and next year you can expect 12”'s from me, Utah Jazz and Furney. Also finally MC Conrad's debut album will be released. Besides that I'm hosting a monthly night called 'Bukem in Session' in Fabric. We will be touring the globe in every possible corner next year.
