‚ÄúThe maddest place on earth‚Ä

Hakka√¢¬Ä¬úThe maddest place on earth,√¢¬Ä said Ben.

Ben is one of the people I met tonight at the Family. And by that statement, he means the Family Nightclub. Which I might add, I’m generally inclined to agree with.

On a Friday night, typically I expect progressive and trance but tonight I was graced with something a little different, as the residents TyDi, SyKe and Baby Gee were not playing. Instead we had newcomer Matt (who is usually our sound and lights expert) and Hakka. They both played very different sets, for which I’m glad to say… (I hate hearing the same things all night)

Matt started his set on a fairly cruisy note, giving the crowd shots of progressive house and funk when they wanted it. The vibe in the room was awesome, and his song choice was just as good. He played Eric Prydz remix of √¢¬Ä¬ú1983√¢¬Ä, which I absolutely love and so did the weird freaky guy I see there dancing solo EVERY Friday night, he√¢¬Ä¬ôs very amusing! Overall I√¢¬Ä¬ôd say his set was leveled, with a bit of spice, but just perfect to begin the night with.

Hakka was next in line to play, but in a very acid inspired/progressive and funky-house like way. He played some songs from √¢¬Ä¬úHouse2Hard√¢¬Ä by Nik Fish, also a bit of Ministry of Sound √¢¬Ä¬ì The Annual, but with his own style. At one stage in his set, the music slowed right down until this bizarre Latin-style/salsa song began playing. I laughed. And then laughed harder when I saw that everyone had begun spinning and twirling like they were Latino dance champions. Then the music slid back to normal pace and Harry threw √¢¬Ä¬úI√¢¬Ä¬ôve got the power√¢¬Ä at the crowd. Hmmm√¢¬Ä¬¶.

All in all, it was a good night. All the music was weird and wonderful in its own way and certainly lived up to the quote by that random raver Ben, √¢¬Ä¬úThe maddest place on earth!√¢¬Ä
