It's time to take the jump to hyperspace with the "From Deep Space" LP
from Phace and Misanthrop. These two production teams last joined forces
in May 2009 with "Mammoth", now they've released their first 14 track
LP on Neosignal Audio.
Phace, the
germany duo mostly known for their neurofunk sound and Misanthrop being
the master of dark DnB, have gone deep and murky with this LP, sprinkled
with a couple of interesting tunes. First and foremost, I've been a fan of Drum n Bass since it's inception and like a lot of
the diversity in the genre of Drum n Bass, however the neurofunk style isn't overly to my liking. That being said, I have gone into this review with an unbiased mind.
Interesting to note, this LP
isn't a straight compilation with individual tracks by each production
team and collaborations. This might account for the varying sounds in
some of the tracks with the first track "Channel Feel" being a somber
lead-in track (Phace) followed by the title track "From Deep Space"
(collab), one to get the heart racing.
As you might have guess
they've continued on the space theme with Phace's "Orbit" a sinister
track with tight beats. Things start to get interesting with Phace's
"Generation For Sale" a track, which has more in common with House than
DnB, though it's still dark and very bass synth driven. This I have to say, is very refreshing to see artists going out of their comfort zones and trying new territory on their LP
releases.
Production on this LP is full of wah-wah pedal
distortion, heavy subs and pounding bass beats. If dark and stormy is
your cup of tea, then this is the storm in a tea cup for you.
"From
Deep Space" (Neosignal Audio) lands on the 8th February.
