Gareth Emery - The Sound of Garuda

3rd January, 2010

Written by: Digitalchild ( dchild).

At the end of 2008 I sat down with Gareth Emery to have an informal chat about things and he mentioned that he had an idea to start a  new record label. 2009 started kicked off and the idea became a reality but he went further creating a companion club night that has begun to create a sound all on its own. Gareth Emery has been bounding through the last 18 months delivering musical goodness on all fronts; the new label, some great music and sliding into the top 10 DJ's in the world.

The first mix compilation on Garuda is a double CD representing Gareth Emery's musical outlook of 2009 and whats to come in 2010. It's the best introduction to The Sound of Garuda that you could possibly ask for. I've listened to this album at least once a day since I got it and I've been quite selfish and not shared my views on it for quite a while, but now that I've given it a good road test I'm ready to share my thoughts.

The first disc looks ahead at 2010 and whats to come, kicking off with a special intro mix of Ashley Wallbridge's 'Harmonies' then flows through just over 70 minutes of perfectly selected tunes. Some of the tracks you can hear include a great remix of Ben Preston's 'Repeat After Me' by Shawn Mitiska and Ad Brown and Gareth Emery's 'I Will Be The Same' sung by the ever talented Aussie, Emma Hewitt. Sander Van Doorn's 'Ninety' and the smashing tune ' Inside My Time' from Marcel Woods & Arteno Divini are also in the mix.

The second disc is a retrospective look at 2009 and what has come to light to shape The Sound of Garuda and developed Gareth Emery's distinctive sound you hear on the dance floors around the globe. With great precision Gareth Emery weaves a journey of 2009 that really hits the nail on the head of what is Gareth Emery. I look at the track list and instantly think, yup that's Mr Emery alright. The highlight of the disc would have to be the cheeky Emery Edit 'Lethal Stadium Four' mashing Tiesto, Lange, Moor and Komytea into greatness. When he first played this on his podcast 84 his forums and the net were abuzz with where that came from and if it would ever see the light of day. It has and will probably be the only time we will see it on a release.

I could give a blow by blow on how great this album is, but I think its best if you just get it and listen to it, on repeat, for a month or two. If I had to pick a favourite of the 2 CD's I think I'd go for 2010 as the sound is so tightly packed and flows perfectly, the great selection of tunes gives us a taste of whats to come and wet's my musical appetite a little more than the sound of 2009 does.

It's available now at all good download stores and record stores now so be sure to grab a copy if you haven't already. Tell your friends, stick it in your car stereo and blast it for all to hear.
