Lincoln Barrett aka High Contrast has released his "best of" compilation titled "Confidential", something that is unheard of in the Drum n Bass scene. So, is it worth your hard earned cash ? Damn straight.
The reasons why a "best of" compilation is unheard of in the DnB scene are -- a) whilst DnB is only about 20 years old, you don't normally see artists who have been around that long with at least 3 LPs under their belt and b) DnB fans tend to buy everything that an artist makes along the way, so a "best of" is kinda moot when you've already got all those tracks.
But this is where the "Confidential" LP excels. Most people wouldn't know that High Contrast is a master on remix duties. From Missy Elliott to Adele, from Utah Saints to Basement Jaxx, his remixes do more than enhance the original versions -- they have become classics in their own right.
Even, High Contrast himself admitted that alot of his current fans only know him from his "Tough Guys Don't Dance" LP (2007), so that's what makes this LP a must buy for them, to get a chance to hear more from HC's diverse career.
This two disc compilation has been set out with Disc 1 containing all the originals, such as "Racing Green", "Return of Forever", "Music Is Everything" and one of my favourite HC tracks "Lovesick" -- along with new track "Seven Notes in Black". Disc 2 has all the remixes from artists such as Omni Trio, The Streets, Eric Prydz, Utah Saints, Basement Jaxx and also his own remix, which is currently doing the rounds "The Basement Track (Upstairs Downstairs Remix)".
Making his debut way back in 2001, he's has certainly come a long way -- and he's not slowing down anytime too soon.
"Confidential" (NHS 151) is out now on Hospital Records.
