Shawn Mitiska - Mile High Sessions Volume 1

24th September, 2008

Written by: Digitalchild ( dchild).

Shawn Mitiska presents 'Mile High Sessions Volume 1' the first installment of a new mix compilation from Armada. Putting his skills to work he has selected some of the best tracks available on Armada today. Such as the rather addictive track 'The Drugs' by Blake Jarrell, Matthew Dekay's 'Living in a Bubblepop' and a couple of remixes from Shawn's own discography. It doesn't stop with these, the entire mix is packed to the rafters with choonage. If I had to genre-pigeonhole this release I would slot it around the progressive house and trance area's with a sprinkling of electro/tech in the mix.

When I gave the compilation its first test run I wasn't really sure about the first 2 tracks but I've had the whole weekend to listen to it and they really tie in well with the rest of the mix. They kick the journey off with a nice and mellow feel that builds nicely. It's the kind of mix I'd use as my sound track while driving around the Mile High city (Denver). Which is kind of ironic on two fronts, the first being the title of the release and secondly because Shawn Mitiska is from denver.

The first track is Rene Amesz's remix of Blake Jarrell's catchy tune 'The Drugs.' This was the first time I had heard this track and I was initially turned off by how it started. The track by itself is OK but it really suits the whole experience and is well placed. I wasn't so sure about the second track, Simon & Shaker's remix of Hallowed by 'Outsiders' either. Then it came into rotation while I was hurriedly walking around the city which set my pace and changed my mind about the track.

The mix continues to  groove along into Umek & Beltek's 'Army of Two',  the Jay Lumen Main Stage Remix. Before long we're passing the halfway point with Matthew Dekay's 'Living In A Bubblepop.' We get to hear a couple remixes from Shawn Mitiska including 'Razorface' and 'Please Don't Go,' one of my favorite tracks. He signs off with the Dash Berlin remix of 'You Never Said' which he produced along side Matt Cerf and the lovely Jaren. Complete tracklist is below.
01. Blake Jarrell – The Drugs (Rene Amesz Remix)
02. Outsiders – Hallowed (Simon & Shaker Remix)
03. Umek & Beltek – Army Of Two (Jay Lumen Main Stage Remix)
04. Heatbeat – Geek Love
05. Matthew Dekay – Living In A Bubblepop
06. Daniel Lindenberg – Razorface (Shawn Mitiska Remix)
07. Dobenbeck – Please Don’t Go (Shawn Mitiska Remix)
08. Isma-Ae vs Strobe – Monkey Square
09. The Doppler Effect – Beauty Hides In The Deep (The Blizzard Remix)
10. Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren – You Never Said (Dash Berlin Remix)

'Mile High Sessions Volume 1' mixed by Shawn Mitiska is out on Armada and available on iTunes right now. If you're looking for some cruising music you should check this out. I've really been liking what Shawn Mitiska has been doing lately and I will continue to follow him closely if this is what he's delivering now I can't wait to see what the future holds. There won't be any samples for this so you're just going to have to take my word for it and buy it.
