Help Bunny from Rabbit In the Moon

23rd September, 2008

A recent tragedy at a festival in South Korea has altered the life of Rabbit in the Moon's Bunny forever. A blinding eye injury caused by an audience member at the Annual World DJ Festival in Seoul, South Korea has changed Bunny's landscape dramatically.

Back in May Bunny in the Moon were asked to perform at the second annual festival in Korea. Bunny performed the first night and  was hanging out with friends DJ Dan and Donald Glaude on the second night helping out with technical and sound issues. It was on this night that a glass bottle was thrown by a member of the crowd directly and intentionally at Bunny. It was a direct hit to his left eye that destroyed the retina, lens, some skin underneath and his vision. Big Shot Magazine was able to talk to Bunny regarding his ordeal and he had this to say about it.

"I was standing next to Dan and I got hit in the chest with like, a coin, and some dude in the crowd was flipping me off and looking at me like 'yeah, I threw it.' I didn't think anything of it, just what happens at festivals and stuff."

It was 20 minutes before the bottle was launched causing serious injury.

"It went right to my face. I got hit in the eye with a bottle. It went directly into my eye. I immediately collapsed, bleeding. They carried me off and took me to the hospital. I basically thought I lost my eye. I'm a visual artist, so losing an eye would be like… I mean, it's a big part of my life and livelihood."

Even though he had insurance and the event had insurance it has been insufficient in covering his costs. Korea has no laws for punitive damages so there is no legal recourse to recover anything from the injury. This has put some serious financial strain on bunny with surgery bills reaching $20,000 over the summer. He has about 20% vision in his eye which isn't enough for him to have depth perception and or peripheral vision.

To help Bunny with his medical expenses a 'Bunnyfit' benefit will be held with all proceeds going to Bunny. DJ Dan and Donald Glaude will be performing as well as Sandra Collins and Vello Virkhaus, VJTEC, Quivver and Freddy Be. Rabbit in the Moon will also DJ at the event. So if you're in the area or want to donate you can head over to the Bunny Coalition and show your support.

It's nice when I get a release come across my desk and opening it to see its one of my favorite producers Dennis Sheperd. I was expecting something great and I wasn't disappointed.
