The Flash Brothers - Elements 03

10th September, 2008

When I first got this release I was intrigued by the concept of a mix CD that was also completely remixed by the DJ's. Elements 03 is the third installment from Baroque Records using this idea with The Flash Brothers at the helm this time around.
Baroque challenges the run of the mill artist album and mix CD putting an exciting new slant on the concept of a producer compiled album. Those enlisted to take on the 'elements' will compile a wish list of tracks for their album. Then be given the parts that make up each track to remix them, and form a unique and brand new package of tracks that will make up their own dj mix! This series takes the DJ / producer relationship to a new level and proves just why the whole transformation from Producer to DJ - DJ to producer, works so well.
I've had the opportunity to listen to the album quite a few times now and I'm still enjoying the release which helps reenforce the quality of this release. You may have heard a few reviews of it around the place and a couple of the tracks from the first promo (such as in episode 88 of DanceNode Radio) and I think you'd agree with me that this album is both unique and top notch. One of the great things about this release is that its a double CD with the first CD being the mix compilation while the second disk has DJ friendly single tracks.

They start off with their take on Kris Benton's Final Race giving it a nice injection of chunky bass lines and a nice progressive feel. The follow up with Dirty Dot's Heart of pain which is a particular favorite of mine from when it was first released and I'm really liking The Flash Brothers take on it. They level it out slightly with Torro Remote's Hi Res that is a little bit more atmospheric and housey but keeping the chunky bits in there. The set progresses nicely through to a nice summer feeling that is working great for those of us down under that are just preparing for the summer. The 10 tracks that make up this great release are :
01.Kris Benton - 'Final Race' (Flash Brothers remix)
02.Dirty Dot - 'Heart of pain' (Flash Brothers remix)
03.Torro Remote - 'Hi Res' (Flash Brothers remix)
04.Thomas Sagstad - 'Castillian' (Flash Brothers remix)
05.Thomas Langner - 'One' (Flash Brothers remix)
06.Maxie Devine & Veerus - 'Automatik' (Flash Brothers remix)
07.Def Disco - 'Solpadine' (Flash Brothers remix)
08.David Shaw - 'Digital prostitute' (Flash Brothers remix)
09.Medway & Sven Hauck - 'Division' (Flash Brothers remix)
10.Soliquid - 'Defibrillator' (Flash Brothers remix)
This release highlights the versatility of The Flash Brothers showcasing their production skills and reenforcing their great DJing style. When you hear the set you know that its The Flash Brothers as there is just something about it that is very characteristic of their sound which I really like about it. Some of my favorite tracks include 'Heart of Pain,' 'Automatik,' 'Digital Prostitute' and 'Division.' Although I've highlighted my picks I think they're all worthy of play time.

I've often witnessed a producer that has been booked to play a gig and their DJ'ing just isn't up to scratch, this isn't the case with The Flash Brothers. This is a great album and I'd recommend you pick up a copy. You can also read an interview with The Flash Brothers that we featured recently along with catching a replay of the their guest mix on our podcast. The release is out on Baroque and available now from all good digital download stores.
