Steve Mac - Paddy's Revenge

5th August, 2008

Written by: Digitalchild ( dchild).

What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the Irish you guessed it, the jig. It's no surprise that when legendary producer/DJ Steve Mac was approached by Steve B from Big Fish Little Fish that "Paddy's Revenge" was the result. Since its release it has flown up several charts hitting number one on many of them, Radio 1's Vernon Kay named it record of the week and Pete Tong nominated it as as his essential new tune and has dubbed it 'a number one record!'

Steve Mac has taken the jig into new territory giving it a fresh new twist creating a fine floor filler fit for the summer. It's had some impressive accolades including #1 on the Cool Cuts Chart, #1 on Buzz Chart, #1 on DJ Download and has made its way onto Radio 1's Upfront Playlist. The first time it was played at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Maidstone the track had the dj's and 10,000 clubbers all linking arms and attempting a jig! I would have liked to see that.

The track starts off with a nice groove that you'd hear pumping out of any club speakers, then the funky Irish instruments start. I have to admit the first time I heard this track I thought it was a bit gimmicky but its grown on me. Every time I hear it I want to start a little jig. The release ships with several remixes including two different club mixes, Cahill's Re-rub, D.O.N.S Mix, Skylarks Saved Mix, Steve Mac dub and the radio edit.

All of the remixes have taken a slightly different approach to the tune, but all leave the very distinctive Irish flavor in the mix. With support from the big names including Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Kissy Sell Out and more there is no escaping Paddy's Revenge. Available in September on Beat Blue from all good DJ Download stores.
