U4IC DJ's feat Steve Birch - Generation

22nd July, 2008

Written by: Digitalchild ( dchild).

For the first release on the new label SPX Digital we've got U4IC DJ’S and Steve Birch teaming up to bring us 'Generation.' Within 10 seconds of listening to the original you know its trance. Remix duties are given to Corderoy , Steve Birch and ModRocker. The release name says that it features Steve Birch, but I usually associate features with vocals which this seems to be missing, maybe it should be presents?

The original mix has massive amounts of percussive stabs and a bassline that would create an atmosphere wherever it is played. Unlike most euphoric trance the breakdown short and sweet coming back to the main drop that leads you into trance bliss. It continues along this journey and then crashes back down leaving you wanting more.

No stranger to trance land, Dale Corderoy is first on the remix bringing his signature sound to the table. Beefing up the bassline and adding another dash of euphoria to the mix he's managed to round the edges slightly and done a great job.

Next up we've got Steve Birch taking a more tech approach to the mix. He's added a chunky bassline that throbs like a ravers heart beat adding an energetic pace to the track to get you moving along. I could see myself dropping this in the middle of a long trance set.

Finally we've got Modrocker serving up his take on this trance delight. I hadn't heard of Modrocker before I got this release so its nice to find a new artist to watch out for. This remix sounds a lot different to the others. He's slowed it down and introduced some funky sounds that compliment the melody. You can still hear the original melody in there and the groovy additions get you dancing.

I'd have to say that this is a great first release on the new label SPX Digital. I'm finding that we're starting to see some good trance releases again and this is yet another example. I liked the trance remixes from the start but I wasn't sure on the Modrocker remix. After listening to it a couple of times I'm going to give it the thumbs up. If you want some energy and atmosphere injected into your set the Southampton lads have got what you need. U4IC DJ's feat Steve Birch - Generation will be available from all good digital download stores.
