Christian Smith and John Selway continue on their road of great releases. Some of their current releases include their remix of Jamie Steven's 'Keep Her Space' out on Dieb and their current floor filler 'Total Destruction' out on Drum Code. Their latest release on Steve Lawlers Viva Records is no different. Red Eye / Fast Connection is a combination of tech house and tasty techno beats.
Red Eye is described as epic and coming in at around ten minute's I'd have to agree with them. Boasting their signature bottom heavy bass lines Red Eye builds layer upon layer with a scattering of horns, snares and groovy undertones. With the trademark tech sound you got a healthy dose of housey elements into the mix too. There is two remixes of Red Eye the original that gives you a nice techy sound while the apreggio mix gives the sound a little bit more punch and atmosphere.
Fast connection is the second track in the release that continues with the rolling bassline and deep horns. I like the geek factor in this track having a go at how slow one's connection is while on the road. Switzerland's Ripperton continues the geekdom with his remix Ripperton's 56K mix. He takes us down into the deep atmospheric sounds of wooden percussion while keeping the horns grooving along.
I have to admit that the first couple of times I listened to this release I wasn't a fan, but given a few listens it has grown on me. I've started to explore the finer sides of tech and minimal and this is a great stepping stone for me. I'd recommend this to anyone already mixing it up or if you want to try something new. It's already out and available exclusively at Beatport, so why not jump over and give it a spin.
Digitalchild loves his dance music. If he's not talking about it, he's spinning it and if he's not spinning it, he's listening to it. He is also the guy that makes the light go on and off.
