Drum n Bass is a style of music that has always got me tapping my feet and bopping my head and this track is no different. This release written and produced by the previously unheard of RJ Productions made its rounds on Nihal and Bobby Friction's Radio1 show in the second half of 2007. It's name came from its position in RJ's database of tracks which I find to be nice and geeky.
I've had a listen to the original mix a few times and I have to agree with what Nerm from BBC's Asian Network ElectroEast had to say about the track, "Beautiful, melodic drum 'n' bass." The first mix I got was very short at just over three minutes but still packed a good punch. I got the full version only very recently and I'm happy to report that I'm loving the ten minutes of goodness. It has a catchy combination of the familiar drum 'n' bass sound coupled with great piano riffs. At first you feel you've heard this track before and then it changes ever so slightly till you're not quite sure where. I like the spoken word near the beginning of the track and only wish there was more of it the remix.
The promo release comes with a single remix from Stockholm Syndrome that claims to be an eclectic, house mash up of the tune. However it removes all the drum and bass elements from the track and turns it into a pretty trivial cut and paste remix, that is only slightly saved by the sweeping strings and oriental sounding pads throughout.
Overall I like the original and can't wait to spin it in a drum 'n' bass set on the show in the near future. If you love your dnb then you'll love this track, check it out its available on Dice Music online through iTunes, 7digital and a few others, its also on 12" in the UK.
