4Mal & Matthew Adams feat Corey Andrew - Computer Parts

Mondo Records' latest release; 4Mal & Matthew Adams ft Corey Andrew - Computer Parts is a well produced progressive trance track that doesn't quite live up to it's potential but still has some endearing qualities.

The complete release package includes the 4Mal remix alongside Michael Feihstel, Redstar and Elvenfox.

4Mal's mix kicks off with a very upbeat Caribbean vibe heavy on the bongos until it drifts into a bitter-sweet combination of edgy sythns and pads. As with most 4Mal tracks the warm bass envelopes your ears nicely soothing out the sharp edges of superfluous modem samples.

It's great to see they have an overall concept for the song, and props to them for sticking with it but in this case it's a little overkill. Combine this with over simplistic vocals that seem so distant from the underlying track and you could be forgiven for giving up on the track entirely. Luckily however, the slew of remixes provide some choice in the matter.

Matthew Adams' dub version is unsurprisingly very similar to the original and without the vocals the underlying elements are able to shine through. Matthew has also bulked out the breakdown with piano and more pads creating a gorgeous atmosphere.

Michael Feihstel has placed a deeper edge on the sound for his versions removing a lot of the high hats and focusing on the bass. He also uses the piano's more to build the intensity of the track but retains a very similar sound to Matthew's versions.

The Elvenfox and Redstar remixes are the most diverse from the original, each taking a more unique approach to the track. The Elvenfox remix is quite bouncy with a slight tech feel as the layers build to create a richer experience. You'll have to make up your own mind about the eighties style guitar though. Redstar cranks up the pace dramatically with a simplistic trance interpretation that doesn't quite gel with the original sound.

When this track first landed in my inbox I was excited to see a new track from 4Mal and then quickly disappointed by the vocal versions, they simply didn't work for me. However as the remixes were more to my style they have stayed in my crate and continue to grow on me.

Look for 4Mal & Matthew Adams ft Corey Andrew - Computer Parts on Mondo Records soon.
