Ossie - Farewell

6th February, 2008

Written by: SJ Regan ( sjregan).

Farewell is the latest single from Israeli DJ & producer Ossie on the new Soulglow imprint. This progressive based track seems to have spent a little too much time in Dr Jekyll's lab so you're never sure what mood it's going to be in.

The introduction of the track flows nicely with a high-hat heavy electro vibe and then kicks into overdrive with a delicious warm fuzzy bass line. Minimal use of an echoed vocal stab and an infectious saw-tooth maintain the intensity as it builds towards the breakdown. This is when things take a sudden turn with heavy pads dominating an otherwise sparse landscape, luckily though it doesn't last long and the track builds into a feverish drop. While these various elements are nice enough in their own right, together they don't quite gel as well as they could giving the track it's identity crisis.

The minimal mix has a much better sense of self (as much as a track can anyway). The various elements come together in a cohesive manner but without the bass line that is so prominent in the original, it quickly becomes forgettable.

Overall it's a reasonably solid release, in the right hands the bass line and the drop in the original could be used to devastating effect on the dance floor.
