Dumonde Goes Separate Ways

30th January, 2008

Written by: Karen Brodie ( karen).

It was a bitter sweet reaction for many when an official press release came from Massive News, back on December 10th, 2007.  It was official; the dance music duo  Dumonde, also know as Jam X and De Leon, were parting ways after more then a decade of producing and Djing together.  They had previously hinted that they were calling it quits two years earlier, but apparently that was a misunderstanding. This time however, it’s for real.

For those of us in the dance music scene, Dumonde has been a staple in high energy trance, bringing their energetic sound to nightclubs worldwide since the mid 90’s.  Few in the scene could possible forget the first time they heard "Tomorrow" or "God Music", two classic trance anthems from this German duo.

I remember the first time I personally experienced a Dumonde show live, having Juergen Mutschall and Dominik de Leon at the helm.  It was back in 2005 at an all-access event at  The Guvernment complex in Toronto, Canada with Dumonde playing in the Kool Haus section of the building. The crowd was a typical nightclub affair with happy clubbers dancing up a storm, taking photo’s, and trying to clamber on stage.  All of a sudden "Tomorrow" came on, and for those few minutes, every person in the room was mesmerized.  There wasn't a person in the entire 2500 capacity room standing still and the night became electric.

This is how I remember Dumonde:  pumping fists all night, interacting with the crowd by dancing on the stage or running into the crowd, and especially leaving everyone in the room wanting more.

With the the end of more then a decade together, they are leaving us with one final album titled as you would expect, A Decade (1997 - 2007).  This album will feature all of the classic Dumonde hits produced over the past 10 years.

However as one door closes its chapter in dance music, another opens.  Dominik De Leon has decided to branch off and begin his own solo journey. To hear new and exciting productions, head on over to his  myspace artist page for samples of his upcoming remix work.
