Following on from releasing new remixes of 80s anthem 'Tricky Disco' iO Music have continued the movement with fresh mixes of 'Pure' by G.T.O .
G.T.O comes from Lee Newman and Mike Wells' original joint project 'Greater Than One' formed in 1985 as an outlet for performance art, recordings and installations. Unfortunately they are probably more well known for their alias Technohead with the track 'I Wanna Be a Hippy'. Luckily 'Pure' is a very different sound.
Swen Weber puts an electro house spin on the tune with a nice grooving bass line overlaid with stock percussion and the various blips and bleeps from the original. Sliced female vocals are interspersed throughout but remain some what distant from the underlying track. There are moments where you get carried away with the track but at the same time there are moments where you lose interest as well. On it's own the track does not really grab my attention, but with careful selection and manipulation within a set it could reach a whole new level.
Plato a.k.a Mijk Van Dijk has also put his fingerprints on the track taking a deeper more minimal approach. I prefer the subtle approach to progression he has taken. While it's less engaging on its own the possibilities for manipulation in a set are much greater.
