Riley & Durrant have certainly made a name for themselves remixing big names like Way Out West and Armin Van Buuren but now the tides have turned and it's their own tracks getting the attention.
'Aurora' / 'Expirement 2' is a two tracker taken from their artist album 'Research & Development'.
'Aurora (Club Mix)' is a rework of the album version that could almost be classed as minimal progressive. It's a moody offering that slowly builds climbs it's way to a spacey climax. Heavy use of the vocal sample ties the various elements of this track together but becomes a little too much in places. The stark contrast between the minimal beginning and the overly complex ending create a nice journey but one that ultimately felt a little unsatisying.
For 'Expirement 2' Hauswerks has been brought in for remix honours. The track features a solid deep bassline with electro elements interspersed throughout. The middle of the track contains a georgeous progressive interlude but unfortunately it seems completely out of place. Individually the samples used within the track are good in their own right, but the arrangement of this track leaves a lot to be desired as there seems no clear direction or flow.
'Riley & Durrant - Aurora / Expirement 2' wil be released on New State Music in January 2008.
