Yoshitoshi Montreal is a mix album put together by Canadian based DJ / producer Sultan that covers a range of musical styles. Nearly a third of the entire album consists of Sultan's own tracks, remixes or mash-ups giving it a unique sound that stands out amongst the masses.
I generally find a lot of house music generic and formulaic so I tend to shy away from the genre a little but by the second song the album had grabbed my attention and kept it throughout. There are definitely moments that simply didn't resonate with me and I wouldn't have normally said having such a diverse range of moods in one album was a good thing but in this case it works.
"This compilation is a depiction of the DJ and producer in me as well as a reflection of the impact that Yoshitoshi has made on the Dance scene, Montreal and myself over the years. It encompasses a colourful array of moods and styles starting with melodic and housey, moving into electro and progressive and ending with down tempo."

Many of the tracks made me think of particular moments of my life, or made me think of where I'd rather be listening to these tunes. It all starts in the club dancing shamelessly, then you're driving down the freeway bare feet out the window, laughing it up at home with your mates, and then back to the club again to wind things down.
Tracks include Sultan’s remixes of his own Shinichi classic 'No Why' and G-Pal's 'No Other Man' and two new unreleased Sultan mash-ups of Valentino's 'Flying' with Narcotic Thrust's 'Waiting For You' and Joe T Vanelli's Epic 'Prelude' alongside his rework of 16 Bit Lolitas ‘Passing Lights.
I was honestly surprised at how much I enjoyed the set given how far from my normal musical preference it is and think it would make a great addition to any music library. Yoshitoshi Montreal - Mixed By Sultan will be released in November.
